WHAT IS CICLO?

From product to packaging, here at Nimble Activewear we are dedicated to practising consciously. As a sustainably-led brand, we offer styles ranging from cosy knits to high-tech performance wear now crafted with CiCLO® recycled polyester as well as CiCLO® recycled nylon. The following guide is everything you need to know about CiCLO® technology and how your Nimble products made with CiCLO® are minimising micro-plastics pollution - go you!

what is ciclo®?

Meaning “cycle”, CiCLO® allows synthetic, plastic-based fibres to behave more like natural fibres, such as wool and cotton. As a result, we leave less waste behind on our journey to create a healthier, happier planet.

What we love most about ciclo® (and what you will too!)

Meaning “cycle”, CiCLO® allows synthetic, plastic-based fibres to break down at a similar rate to natural fibres, such as wool and cotton. As a result, we leave less waste behind on our journey to create a healthier, happier planet.

WHAT WE LOVE MOST about ciclo®

(AND WHAT YOU WILL TOO!)

1. Biodegrades at rates similar to natural fibres.

2. Reduces synthetic microfiber pollution in our oceans, so you can look cute with a clear conscience!

3. Non-toxic and does not harm sea life.

4. Reduces synthetic textile accumulation in landfills.

5. Same product quality with an improved environmental impact.

6. Used to create a range of products, including knits & activewear.

the science behind ciclo®

1. WHAT DOES CiCLO® DO?

CiCLO® fibres, yarns and textiles have been proven effective over the course of several years through reliable scientific data gathered from third party laboratory studies that determine the rate and extent of biodegradation in simulated environments (including sea water, landfill, wastewater treatment plants and soil).

Based on this evidence, products made with CiCLO® fibres can:

Reduce the environmental impact of synthetic microfiber pollution.

AND

Reduce synthetic textile accumulation in landfills.

2. HOW DOES CiCLO® DO THIS?

CiCLO® fibres reduce plastic pollution in two ways:

• Fabrics made from polyester, nylon and many other synthetics are actually plastic. As with almost all fabrics, they can shed small fibres (sometimes called microfibers or fibre fragments) when worn and washed. These plastic fibres are very small, difficult to recover and wind up in our oceans. Most plastic doesn’t naturally biodegrade, but fibres made with CiCLO® will eventually biodegrade in sea water, just like wool would.

• Unfortunately, mass apparel recycling is not available today and most of it is thrown away when no longer wanted, piling up in landfills. However, like in sea water, fibres made with CiCLO® will eventually biodegrade in landfill conditions

3. HOW ARE CiCLO® FIBRES MADE?

CiCLO® is added to virgin or recycled polyester and nylon when the plastic pellets are melted down to make fibres and yarn. It becomes embedded in the plastic so it never washes off!

Pretty innovative technology, don't you think?
