It’s time to tie up those laces and hit the ground running! The 14km City2Surf run is right around the corner and training for this (almost) half marathon is our top priority. We’ve put together the best free running apps to suit every fitness level (we’re cheering you on first timers!) and get you in shape to take on this popular Sydney running event.


RUNKEEPER – iOS & Andriod

For the professional runners and athletes alike, we know this isn’t your first rodeo and we have just the app for you. Runkeeper is one of the best free running apps for hardcore runners as it accurately tracks pace, distance, steps and calories. Set goals for your race and pace and personalise your routines to fit your busy schedule. Runkeeper also seamlessly integrates with Spotify and analyses your pace to play songs that match with your speed. You’ll be able to keep track of your complete running experience with audio cues to notify you of your pace, distance and time while you run and keep a record of your personalised detailed workout history for you to view and compare with previous workouts - perfect for City2Surf training.


C25K (Couch to 5K) – iOS & Andriod

If City2Surf is your first run, this is best place to start running – see yourself go from couch potato to a 5K runner in no time! C25K starts by alternating running and walking until you can run a full 5K, 30 minutes a day, three times a week for 8 weeks. Throughout each workout the app cues your run and walk intervals while the audio coach motivates you each step of the way. If you’re a fast learner, the 10K Trainer app is a great way to advance your running skills. Containing 5K, 10K and half marathon running plans, it’s the perfect app to get your body ready for the City2Surf during training. Fitted with prompts, running cues and detailed recordings of all your workouts, you’ll be ready to step up to a whole new level.

Personalise your workouts by setting your own goals and your personal pocket trainer, Edomondo will help you get there. STRAVA – iOS & Andriod
